Piece Making with Ellsworth Kelly
Studiopatro Special Project
Explorations in Patchwork
One on One with Ellsworth Kelly
Some of our favorite hours in San Francisco are spent in the Ellsworth Kelly rooms at SFMOMA. His work holds a particular meaning for us – so it felt like something more than coincidence when we came across this photograph of a woman wearing one of his dresses, sharing our founder’s own last name: Weber. We answered it the way we answer most things that move us – by making. This one-of-a-kind apron is our reply to that dress.

Ellsworth Kelly. Study for Colors for a Large Wall. 1951.
Kelly built his paintings, drawings, and sculptures from the shapes and colors he found around him in daily life – ordinary observations turned into pure composition. Studiopatro works the same way. We see a palette in a season, a rhythm in a row of windows, a grid in an array of linen scraps, and we build from there.

One linen square beside the next, we joined small pieces of color into something whole – a quiet work of art for the table. We hope it moves someone the way Ellsworth Kelly moved us.
Concept to cloth. Every stage directed by the studio, every standard held throughout.
